Excel 2007 - Document could not be saved because of a sharing violation error fix
Frequently when using Excel 2007 on windows Vista or Windows 7 I get a message saying "document could not be saved because of a sharing violation error". This happens on a standalone PC not connacted to any others and not on a network as well as when accessing a file on a network.
The problem has been linked to Trend Anti Virus which trend have admitted. They have acknowledged that the Excel 2007 xls / xlsx document could not be saved because of a sharing violation error is linked to their software.
After reading up further on this specific problem I have found a work around when working on Excel.
1.Uninstall search option in windows 7, 2.Unload officescan. When I do this I don't get the error on Excel.I need a solution for this as I don't want to do this everytime.
Unfortunately this is known issue for Windows 7. Please try this fix
1st Solution to "Document could not be saved because of a sharing violation error"
1. On the Officescan Management Console. Go to Networked Computers>Client Management.
2. Highlight a machine with the issue.
3. Go to Settings>Real-time Scan Settings.
4. Under User Activity on Files, change the Scan files being to created/modified.
5. Click on Save.
6. Observe if issue will still happen.
If the 1st Solution does not work, do the ff.
1. Open Registry Editor. Please make a backup before doing any changes.
2. Create a DWORD registry entry "UseMapping" under
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vsapint\Parameters
3. Set the value to "0" to disable the file mapping.
2nd SOlution to "Document could not be saved because of a sharing violation error"
If you are using Trend OfficeScan 10, Trend have got a hotfix to resolve the problem.

1. Overview of this Hot Fix Release

Note: Install this hot fix before completing any procedure in
this section (see Section 4.1, Installation).
This hot fix resolves the following issue:
Issue: On a Microsoft(TM) Windows(TM) platform, if the
"searchindexer.exe" process holds the access right to the
Microsoft Excel temporary files, then the Excel files
cannot be saved.

Solution: Hot fix 1855 updates the OfficeScan client files to allow
users to bypass the Windows search index process from the
scan engine.

Procedure: To bypass the "searchindexer.exe" process globally:
a. Open the "Ofcscan.ini" file in the "\PCCSRV\" folder
of the OfficeScan server.
b. Under the "Global Setting" section, manually add the
"TmfilterBypassSearchIdx=1" key.
c. Open the OfficeScan server management console and
click "Networked Computers" > "Global Client Settings"
on the main menu to access the "Global Client Settings"
page.
d. Click "Save" to deploy the setting to clients.
After the command is deployed to the client, OfficeScan
adds the following registry entry on the client computer:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tmfilter\Parameters
Key (dword): BypassSearchIdx
Value: 1
Note: Hot fix 1855 requires that the Trend Micro scan engine be
updated to version 9.160.1006 or above before the deployed
registry entry can take effect.

4. Installation/Un-installation

4.1 Installation
========================================================
To install this hot fix:
1. Install OfficeScan 10.0 Service Pack 1. If this has been installed
previously, proceed with the next step.
2. Copy the hot fix executable file to a temporary folder,
for example, "C:\temp".
3. Double-click the file. The modules are automatically copied to
the correct destination.
This hot fix installation package automatically rolls back the
OfficeScan server to its previous configuration if there are problems
during installation.
If you encounter problems after installation, do a manual rollback.
4.2 Un-installation
========================================================
To manually roll back to its previous configuration:
1. Locate the backup folder that the hot fix package created in the
"\PCCSRV\Backup\Hotfix_B1855" directory.
2. Copy the backup modules to the original folders.
5. Post-installation Configuration
===========================================================
No post-installation steps are required.
Note: Trend Micro recommends that you update your scan engine and
virus pattern files immediately after installing this hot fix.
